Default 2010 Skate of the Union Marathon & ESS #5

from event organizer Krista....

"Itís on and we are going to have the following distances available: MARATHON, Ĺ MARATHON, 10K & 3 lap roll. Iím working on updating the website and opening registration this week. We have a chip timing company secured (same one as NY100K). Ready for more good news? The event is being upgraded from a Class A event to a Major event which means more points for the NROC participants! "

This is a really fun race everyone - you should try to make it. Even though it's a short course it's very exciting! Smooth pavement, great people... what more could you ask for?

Attention all folks in Atlanta, GA.

Yeah, you know who I'm talking about.

There is a United flight from ATL to IAD that lands 2 hours before race time. The race track is adjacent to the airport. I'm sure we can arrange to have you picked up.

In and out in one day makes for a great value. No hotel, no restaurant, no rental car, no hassle. Come in, do your skatey thing, pick up your metal, and wear it home.

Can't beat that.

Race schedule:

8:00 10K race
8:40 5K race
9:30 Marathon and Half-marathon race
12:00 Awards ceremony

All races are chip timed so you have register online by September 16 so that the chip company can assign chip/bib numbers and set up the race computer.

JKL Racing (sorry, selfless promo www.jklracing.com) will be at the race and we're looking forward to it!!!

It will be great to have Ross Creveling there to announce! As I recall, last year, when SOTU took place, he had gone to World Championships in China. Similarly, some of the Eastern Region's top talent, who regularly compete in the Eastern Seaboard Series, were also at Worlds last year. I do believe, however, they will be there this year, although I am not certain when residency starts for the World teams.

Anyways, we're looking forward to the race!

This is Michelle. Remember me?

I'll see you on Sunday since you convinced me to sign up. I have no expectations since I'm not a speed skater. I'm both excited and nervous about this since I've never entered a race. My goals are to enjoy the experience, learn a few things from the pros, finish the half-marathon in a decent time (for me), and stay out of the way of the fast skaters.

We're headed down to Virginia tomorrow afternoon and looking forward to the race on Sunday! As Intrepid said, the weather is looking superb. We're also looking forward to meeting some other Skateloggers who we (or me) haven't previously met. Safe travels to everyone and see you on Sunday.

Hi Michelle, glad to see that you are on SkateLog. Being excited and nervous is what you should feel before a race, you will do great in the half-marathon.

Did you tell me at the W&OD parking lot that you have skated 2,000 miles this year?

I will be helping at the race registration desk early in the morning so I may see you there. Otherwise I am sure that we will see each other during the day.

Howard

I'm at 1,982 miles right now. I would have gone over 2,000 if I skated today, but I took the day off as you recommended. I'll probably go skating Sunday afternoon to get the extra miles I need.

I'll try to get there early so that I can see all of the races.

Good luck in your races!

WOW what a race. Sorry I'm going to keep you all in suspense as I now have to pay (work I promised to do around the house) for the event.

Lots of podiums for Skateloggers and some surprises............ late.

Great meeting you today Sheldon, as well as creamburmese!! When you told me about the young athletic guy who'd just started skating and did well in the Advanced Marathon, well not just well, he won it overall, you neglected to mention that this man was noneother than the Skatelog's Veganpotter.... Way to go!! A great day of racing and super weather!

Did we miss some surprises after we had to leave to check out of our hotel and get on the road??? C'mon.... Inquiring minds want to know.

What a great day - perfect weather - friendly people - the opportunity to see skating from some of the top skaters. Thanks to Skaters Quest for putting on this event! I notice that the new J&K Larson speed team had lots of purple podium finishes - so hopefully we'll hear more about that....
