Default Callaway Gardens 2009?

Anyone know the date for the Callaway Gardens marathon this year?

I'll be there if at all possible!

but not if it is the weekend of May 15, since we have made a local team that are going to skate a relay and raise money for cancer research. We have raised more than $1000 already - do support our efforts here http://main.acsevents.org/goto/birgit.holme

So Jimmy go for it if you can get it up and running and a date out soon, I have heard nothing but praise for the event!! Would hate to see it disappear!!

The typical date is the first weekend of May (aka Saturday May 2). As far as pay-out, my small check last year bounced and actaully cost me money in the form of an overdraft fee.

Of course, I'll make it if it happens.

The Columbus NTF, organized by GT Speed will be held on April 26, 2009.

The Callaway Gardens Marathon will not be held this year.

Stacey White organized the marathon last year (has done an outstanding job), however, she has not been active with the team this year.

If you want a Callaway replacement with a more social skating event the May 1-3 weekend, come to DC for the Skate DC Weekend. Of course, some of us faster skaters will be up ahead, but there will be regroup spots. There is a certain anticipation around here because the biggest weekend skate will involve the new Wilson bridge for the first time (if the pedestrian route is open by then). Of course, I suspect some of us will check the route out earlier.

It might be a good idea to start a new thread for the the Skate DC event so people will be able to find gopherfan's info easier. Since there is a lot of interest in our event (unfortunately not happening this year), I am reposting the previous one.

Default Disappointed...

I really enjoyed the Callaway marathon the last two years. Sad to see it not happen this year. I also e-mailed Stacy for an update, and got no reply. I'm officially bummed.

On the positive side, I participated in the second Atlanta Tri-Terra-Thon of the season today. It's my first. Chuck Opperman started this a couple years ago, and has 3-4 planned for this year. It's a real test of your heart and lungs. One short lap (5 miles) skating around Stone Mountain, One long lap (~11 miles) biking around Stone Mountain, then run/walk/climb (~1 mile, 786 vertical feet) up Stone Mountain. The skate lap has some pretty significant hills, but the bike lap has some real doozies. The ascent up the mountain speaks for itself.
