Default NSIM '12 participation

I've looked into the signups so far and found some interesting things. If I've got things correct... as of yesterday there are 1499 signed up with 5% of that open/pro/advanced, both men and women (76). 73% (1089) of all signed up so far are recreational from Minnesota. Here is something else interesting to me. How can North Dakota be sending 20 skaters and Iowa only send 8??? What's up with that?

Grand Forks, ND has an inline event, so perhaps there is more of a following there than in Iowa? Perhaps?

I think this is 2nd/3rd yr for NoDak inline event. So it seems a contingency of skaters is emerging from that corner of the US -good to see!!

Thumbs up

as of today it looks like total signups are at 2012 (what a coincdence!!)

................2012...TOTAL skaters registered
...75.4%....1518...from MN
....2.0%.......40....MN Open/Pro/Elite
...73.5%...1478....recreational from MN
....4.7%.......95....total open/pro/elite men/women
....1.4%.......28....rollerski

...42.1% of the open/pro/adv are from Minnesota

I'm figuring anything wave A and below is recreational, anything above A is open/pro/elite

North Dakota is sending 30, Iowa has 15

I skated wave 2 last year and caught up w/ folks from wave 1 - I finished in 1:34, so I'm skating wave B this year. I'd say waves A-B are advanced, Waves 1-2 are a bit faster than rec; and everything 3 and higher are the casual fitness skaters.

Waves A&B also allow cross drafting; as do waves 1-6. The elite/pro waves do not.

I think I should remove the ADV from the legends. The numbers and percentages don't change... Waves A & B are ADV

Do we have an updated breakdown of the NSIM participation? About 3 weeks to go folks!

It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it great.

Sorry, will try to post an update tomorrow. I've just returned from vacation. My wife and I skated at the Grand Canyon!

Just spent the better part of today driving thru Kansas!

This was actually posted on the NSIM facebook page last week. It's a pretty neat way of visualizing where all the skaters are coming from. For instance, there are 5 people coming from my ZIP code. How neat is that.

Thanks! That is a great tool! Too bad you cannot get any more info out of it. All I can see is zip code. With my listing I have names, city, state, country, wave/class

The map is pretty cool. Assuming the map and the breakdown of participants agree we're looking at a 2112 participants with 3 weeks to go. Based on last year's results, 2215 people participated. Anybody know if there is a last minute rush of sign-ups? I have to admit I thought with the addition of a 1/2 marathon run to the list of activities, the number of participants would be greater than last year.

bjvircks...I'd ask if you enjoyed the scenery as you drove through my lovely state of Kansas...but let's face it, Kansas isn't known for the scenery. Hope you had a good trip.

as of 8-27 total signups are at 2159

................2159...TOTAL skaters registered
...74.9%....1618...from MN
...73.0%....1575....recreational from MN
....2.0%.......43....MN Open/Pro/Elite
....5.0%......107....total open/pro/elite men/women...
....1.4%.......31....rollerski

40.2% of the open/pro/elite are from Minnesota
North Dakota is sending 34, Iowa has 17

...16...Open Men
...13...Open Women
....3...Masters Men 35+
...12...Masters Men 30-39
...28...Masters Men 40-49
...34...Masters Men 50+
....1...Masters Women 40+
..110...Wave A
...97...Wave B
..179...Wave 1
..208...Wave 2
..234...Wave 3
..244...Wave 4
..261...Wave 5
..244...Wave 6
.....4...Rollerski Classic Division
.....2...Rollerski Elite Masters Men 35+
.....1...Rollerski Elite Masters Women 35+
.....3...Rollerski Elite 1 Open Men
....21...Rollerski Recreational - Awards by Age Group
..465... No Category

I don't see any way to tell who is "Wave C" (those doing both full marathon AND the 1/2)
I suspect that those with no category are 1/2 marathon skaters

Where are you getting your list? I'm only seeing the attendee list on the website wehre it shows about 50 names at a time. Usually they have a complete list that I can export to excel and sort by division.

if you click on 'more' at the bottom it will display more folks. I've grabbed the whole list and dropped it into a spreadsheet. Every so often I revisit the list, grab the latest additions and add them to the spreadsheet.

Maybe I am just looking at it wrong, but there appear to be over lapping ages in the master men's divsions?

not sure why that occurs... but that was in the registrations. maybe was early 'growing pains'. maybe should have been 50+ instead of 35+

sort by last name, then click on show more until you find the last name BOVITZ
He's the fastest to find example.

i might be wrong but the fee's for registering at this late stage seem to be alot higher than they were in previous years. I could be wrong as ive always registered fairly early but $100 entry fee right now seems a bit excessive
