Default NYC 100k relay event!

I just noticed that the NYC 100k has finally added a relay category this year. Really, it's a "as many laps as you can in 4 hours" relay, so I don't know if they're expecting most teams to go over or under 100k. At 5.3k a lap, it seems perfect for a team of younger or mostly indoor skaters. Or pairs who can do a marathon but don't want to slog through the whole 100k. Any speed teams doing this one?

Considering the timing issues they already have for this event, this seems like a tough logistic ask. (last year many of the 100K participants were told they had completed one more lap than actual) Adding in relay transfers to all the other chaos at the start/finish also seems questionable. Having said this, there must have been groups asking for this option. I'm all for bringing in more skaters.

In a related note, rain has snuck into the forecast for Saturday. I hope this isn't another wet pavement race, but it would be a good idea to be prepared.

New York is probably the only race where I would actually prefer that it did rain, or (more optimally) look very foreboding but not actually rain. It would thin out the non-event traffic on the course.

Sad, but true.

The relay teams I seemed to enjoy it, and some were doing lap times with the elite pack. Having more skaters on the track for the last hour also helped out those of us at the slow end of the 100k, since the non-event traffic seemed a bit more aware that a race was still going on.
