Thanks! I was hoping for a 3000 mile year. But I will settle for 2362 miles, which is the shortest driving distance across the USA. I have already biked across the USA (literally) and have no intentions of trying to actually skate it, but I would like to virtually skate it mileage wise at least. Even with terrible weather messing up August I still have a shot at the 3000, but fairly certain, barring injury, that I get the 2362. If I could hit 3250 miles, that's skating across China. YOU ARE ALREADY THERE!

Dedication fo sho! Nicely done!

FYI...Trans Siberian Railway stretches a little more than 9000 miles. Not looking like you will make that but I will do some research and keep you posted on every country you skate across virtually. Adds a little sense of accomplishment for me and puts the miles in some sort of perspective. All of that adds to my motivation.

Whereas July was bumping up against 600 miles, in August I didn't quite manage 500 miles. The difference: not much more that four days of skating. Maybe five given that July included a "double header" weekend. Fremont practice on Saturday followed by a full Canada Road.

The four days were allocated to the trip north to see the solar eclipse. Worth doing. Good seeing conditions, good photos, just too short. We actually had plans to do some skating on that trip in Redding. Unfortunately, the apocalyptic traffic post eclipse prevented us from even reaching our hotel in Redding. After a short night sleeping in the car in Klamath, neither of us were in the moon or condition to skate.

September should be more but still less than July owing to travel to the Northshore Inline Marathon. Fortunately, I haven't lost any skating to the incredible heat wave. Thursday was before. Friday I biked and deliberated left work late to reduce the effect. Tomorrow is expected to be much more reasonable: "only" low 90's. Manageable, but I will need to be careful.

Nice! We have a cool front coming through here for next weekend. Might be 59*F on the Northshore of out lake at sunrise. Already rented a car and will be racking up miles Fri-Sunday. At last! Weather that is not life threatening!

Are you on Strava or any athletic registry for your workouts? Would like to see some route maps and such.

All my skate sessions are here:

Cool. In which wave are skating Northshore?

I have a Strava Account and all my activities are there. However, it is not maintained. It is just a poorly synchronized clone of my Garmin Connect Account Much is lost in translation including the fact that most of Strava "rides" are actually skates!

If you search the Garmin Connect activities with activity type of "race", you will see several Northshore Inline Marathons.

Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. I live in New Orleans, LA on the Southshore where it stays hot due to the warm water. 10*F Difference just driving 30 miles north across the lake.

Yeah, same here. I have two "bikes" listed - Inline Skates and Longboards. I just looked at your Strava page. Looks great! Now I can use Google Earth to look at the scenery along your routes. I am such a geek about seeing where others are playing!

Thanks for the info! And thanks for bothering to post here. As long as you're here, I shall continue as well.

Down slightly from August. Given similar disruptions, I attribute this mostly to one fewer days. If September had 31 days, it would include tomorrow's expect 44 miles putting me over 500 miles for the month.

Speed is up noticeably. Some of it can be attributed to Northshore (which was fast but not has fast as it would have been without the tactical blunder). But I have also had pretty fast commutes recently too including one morning that beat the previous record by more than 1/2 mph.

No hikes. The race and race training took the Saturday's that I would normally allocate to hiking. October is likely to be similar. I'm racing Tucson on the 22nd, training on the 14th, and doing the Halloween Friday Night skate on the 27/28th. The 7th is a possibility but I have the opportunity for pace line training on that day, I will take it.

I'm taking a pass on A2A this year. There is a technical limitation I need to overcome before I can have any confidence of getting into a useful paceline.
Next year.

Breaking in new skates and some sick days wrecked my mileage this month. Second worst this year - a shame because of the time change coming up now. I am picking up speed on the new quads and able to stay in them for 15 miles without trouble. So hopefully November won't be too frustrating with the extended darkness.

131 miles on these!

572 miles is not a bad haul. Third highest mileage of the year, barely edged out by June on account of an aborted Wednesday Night Skate. This position is likely to hold. We are headed into the rainy season so it unlikely that November or December will approach October's numbers.

Oh, and sometime in the last week or so, I crossed over the 5000 mile mark for the year. If November and December were like October, I could hit 6000. This is very unlikely, though as that would require 500 mile months for both. I don't think this has ever happened for either. Still, I will skate when I can.

I still have a shot at 3000 for the year. Early darkness will not help my cause. 2900 gets me (virtually) from NYC to San Francisco. Might have to be happy with that. I'm at 2786 now. 3K seems SO CLOSE! Yet...far away.

BTW...my normal bike commute is 10 miles a day round trip, 5 days a week. This is the MINIMUM cycling I do and I do not record any of it. So minimally speaking through October I have 2000 miles of cycling added to my skating totals for self-propelled travel. As of this moment (November 9, 2017) I am about 180 miles shy of 5000 miles bike+skates+boards.

Also, in the past 8 days in a row I cranked out 104 miles on the new quad skates in 10 sessions, along with 60 miles of cycling to and from work.
