I supported Jessica the last two A2As but didn't get to go this year. What a great read! I really admire you guys and gals and wish I could actually do it.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jess! I just wish you were there with us. It truly was a group effort to get it done in under 5.

Hey Tremor, thanks for the ride to the start.
I was lucky you happened to be there. My roller luggage was on its last leg. It could've been ugly.

Looking forward to see your result next year.

Good report

Believe or not, climbing is actually Herb's weakness. Skating with him got even more humbling after the hills.

We are impressed by your determined young skaters.

Speaking of which, did Eddy carry a camera for this race?

Default 1st 38 after two 87s

After fighting massive nerve-racking traffic post-Dacula last year, I made up my mind right then and there to do the 38 next time. I never wavered in my decision as time drew near. What a difference! Cooler temps and minimal traffic the whole way this year. Also a lot more intensity of effort with the shorter distance. With a goal of breaking 3 hours (actual time was 2:58:57), I pose no threat to Jessica, Lenny, or any of the other superstars yet I am still amazed that my 60-year old body can sustain such punishment to finish in the top 40% of the entire field and 2nd place in my age group. I also learned how to go 30+ MPH downhill with a well-formed paceline and not panic. Congratulations to all my skate buddies for all their punishing efforts and to those I don't know or whom I just met who endured and suffered mightily to complete the daunting distances.

Anyone else notice how many butt shots are in Lenny's albums?

I've got the first turn start, leaders at 38 miles, and finish on video. Bidding starts now... jk That Comcast guy never came to, apartment had a slight funk smell when I got home, so needless to say I was a bit busy in the cover of dark last night. Will share links when stuff is loaded and those with first dibs have been first sent the files.

Congrats to all who toughed it out and low turn out of war wounds at the first aid tent.

Friday night leaving dinner a fellow skater farewells to me "I hope I don't see you on Sunday." First skater I need to whip out the rubber gloves for is; take a wild guess. I think his words were “Gosh darn those dogs on retractable leashes and space cadet owners.” Or perhaps something more adult rated as justified.

Lenny, Way to go brotha, you had a plan, you brought it together and you made it happen.
This
is what it's all about.

I hereby designate this The Year of Lenny.

Three cheers for Lenny!
My brotha, our brotha!
Rise out of your seat and give
respect to one of us who clawed
and scratched and finally broke
through. May all of us who yearn
for that moment continue to see
that it is there for the taking.
That is all.

Yeah, Lenny! Next year I want to be there when WE go under 4:53:12 to best Speedy's PB. Speedy's invited, if he is man enough.

Let the record show that I was not the one who threw that down. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't one own the record before having priviledge to invite others to break it?
<ahem>
Furthermore, the record in question is no one other than speedy's own PB. There are in fact, far greater records to be broken. In the spirit of it all, I'll pick it up and dangle it out there. Why don't we start the Skatelog challenge? Right here, right now?
You want in?
Pony up.
$50 bucks.
Half to the kitty, half to A2A.
You want the cash?
You can't handle the cash.

This is a skatelog only challenge and has no official
affiliation with the A2A roadskate and is in fact
an unofficial non-licensed unrepresented,
potentially illegal dare for people to step up
and skate a real race.
With the only prize being
Skatelog's A2A Champ for 2009.

I officially declare Lenny the Skatelog A2A Champ for 2008

I take that as a huge complement. I won't bother to explain to you why.

I'll remember that for next year. I'm glad we made an impression on everyone! I knew we had the heart to finish strong, but our knees are lacking. I look forward to skating with everyone again!

Johnny... you killed us. "I'll steal your banana if you don't get up that hill!" Bahaha! Loved it!
