I take it the race is at risk? That's too bad... I was thinking of trying it next year.

Well, congratulations for taking on 87 miles, and best of luck to you! I'm sure you'll kick @ss!

Now back on topic.

You've got to check out Peter Ducet's video. Not much racing action but it really captures the spirit of the event. There's also one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Watch for the spoons.

Part 2: The first part of this video was recorded near Mile 9 at Homestead Road. The second part was recorded near Mile 17 at Lakewood Road. There's coverage of some advanced men, Elite Vet women's wave through Advanced Women. The remainder of the video is from the finish line showing some of the men and the Advanced women.

Women Skaters: This version of the video footage highlights the women skating in the 2007 marathon. That is, we cut out most of the footage of you guys from the first 2 clips.

By the way, the video is shaky at times because my 6-year old son was jumping on the back of the videographer.
Tigger - Thanks for posting the great videos! As someone who has not yet skated NSIM, but hears her husband always rant about the race (it is his favorite outdoor race), it was really fun to see some video and to see the large pack of Pro Veteran men hubby was in, spanning the entire width of the road, as well as all the other large groups and long pacelines, very cool. The terrain didn't quite look like what I had in minds eye... I'd always heard that Duluth was "flat." Again, thanks for posting!

Julie, thanks for the comments! The terrain actually felt flatter than it looks in the video. Don't let that keep you from trying it next year. This was my first NSIM, and while it was chilly and windy, it was still an excellent and enjoyable experience. Plus, I went hiking that afternoon at Gooseberry Falls park, and skated on the Munger Trail the next day -- 2 other good reasons to head to Duluth on race weekend!

Peter Doucet's video is great, isn't it? My favorite part of the clip is the bit in which Eddy Matzger fell out of the car and was laughing too hard to get up. Or maybe it's the bit where he's pushing Peter with that goofy expression on his face... or the part where Peter is racing and pauses to say how hard it is. Priceless!
