Actually, to answer your question...

I teach the beginner class at our rink. I have 20 or so kids on average.

I also am there at EVERY invitational, skating ALONE, cheering on the "green" skaters... anyone in my region could tell you, that I am extremely supportive of all skaters.

So, when you ask me "when was the last time you encouraged a "green" skater... i will tell you...everyday I can.

Ask Rick about how many times I got thrown to the side of the rink because the elite skaters were more important ....and how many times i kept trying to catch up.... and how i never gave up.... still haven't given up....

I'm so glad to read that you encourage young skaters on a daily basis. And I'm glad you weren't offended by my questions!! You're right, too often words on a screen cannot express a persons thoughts the way body language along with those words can.

Reanon informed me a couple of days ago, that with people changing their concentrated disciplines and people moving on to other goals, my son is now the "Big Dog" of our rink...which I found quite funny. However, this provides me an opportunity to groom him to be a role model for the younger skaters in our club. Now is the time for my Joey to "pay it forward"!!!

We know all about being pushed to the side and fighting for your place. The rink we came from was primarily adult dance skaters. They didn't care for sharing the floor with the little freestyle kid. In time, he managed to earn the respect of those dance skaters, and he could bat his eyes and ask them to play his music so he could practice. I'll be damned if all the eyelash batting didn't work!!! LMAO!!! It might have had a little to do with them watching him throw himself on the floor 800 times an hour too.

Again, I as a parent, appreciate those who take that time to help and encourage young people in any form. Keep up the fabulous work!!!
