here is "swimming pool" that I actually literally dropped in at. A fun story ending an otherwise bad day.

here is where I started that 'bad day'. look closely.

pool

launch

OK, this is not really HUMOR.... but still brings ear-to-ear smiles whenever I recall those days.

The day started out well, launching from Walt's Point (as I recall... site is at 9,300 ft msl) but I was flying poorly and making bad choices. Rather than stay up and risk doing something REALLY dumb I decided call it a day and fly away from the Sierra Nevada range crest (usually cruise along between 10,000 and 14,000 ft) and land at what we all knew as the 'swimming pool'. In the summer the Owens Valley locals divert some of the nearby creek to the holding basin and block the basin's outlet. Was good to take a cool dip and mooch a few beers before bagging the glider and begging a ride back to Lone Pine. Think the pool was at around 2,000 msl.
