Default Netherlands

Thinking of driving through Netherlands, from the north, and occasionally stopping to skate a trail for 20-40 minutes, then driving to another. Would like to skate at least one ocean dike. Suggestions?

umm.. no.

But, I'm in the Netherlands often but with work so time is always short. I never get a chance to scope out the good trails (and I know there is plenty of them. I can see them from the taxi!)

Are you able to recommend some good trails around Rotterdam area?

Some links for skating in the Netherlands.

This website lists road quality for skating: http://www.geoskating.com/

Some skate routes: http://www.schaats-en-skate.nl/skate/sklroute.htm#kaart

More skate routes: http://gpstracks.nl/ov-skeeler-nederland.php

And even more routes: http://www.afstandmeten.nl/ (select 'Routes zoeken (tabel)' and then '- kies transort -' -> Skeeleren

Hi Jim,

You could try "de afsluitdijk" inbetween Friesland and Noord-Holland or "de stormvloedkering" in Zeeland, these are the largest waterworks in the Netherlands with great scenery and nice cycle lanes (fietspaden) perfect for skating.

I have skated both these waterworks, up and down, but doing the full thing is going to take hours. They are still great to skate even if you only skate parts of it obviously!

Have fun and let us know about your plans.

Cheers,
Andy.

Thanks, Andy. Regarding my own plans, I was in Europe for a couple of weeks, but am now home. I came to skate the Berlin Marathon. A friend knows some Rolling Vikings, so we flew to Copenhagen, then stayed and trained with them. Originally I had planned to come to Netherlands after Berlin, but because of Denmark offering so many skating opportunities, and non-skating things to do, we stayed there, with tourist trips to Hamburg and Sweden, until returning to USA. So now we know of Netherlands places to skate next trip, and hopefully this information will be useful to others

Great thread, very helpful. Thanks.

Sounds like Jim had a great vacation. Didn't know about Denmark. I'm in Copenhagen often as well.
