Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default Snyder Super Deluxe Pivot Pin Adjustment

Doc,
Just recently got back into skating and just joined the forum. My vintage skates: Riedell 297 boot sz 11, Snyder Super Deluxe Plates sz 12, Vanguard Advantage Wheels and Fafnir bearings. I need guidance on the proper adjustment for the pivot pins. I've gotten a little heavier over the years so I replaced the kingpins with the Snyder Super Tuff kingpins. Also looking to replace the wheels. Looking at the Bones Super Elite. I skate on a wooden floor in San Diego and am primarily a rexer and dancer. 57mm vs 62 mm? Durometer 101 vs 103? Thank you for any suggestions.

Default Advice.

Adjust the pivot until it just touches down in the socket. Do this once before you start tuning the action then again when you are finished.

The bigger ones roll better durometers being equal. Some folks seem to find the smaller ones easier to accelerate and like being closer to the floor.

Durometer 101 vs 103?

That is up to you. Making a call on wheels for your floor from the other end of the country requires a crystal ball. Harder wheels will roll better. Here is a result of s survey of our locals that sk8 a similar style (in similar sk8s) Roller Bones. They seem to be favored for looks and performance in the swamp. I'd ask the folks that sk8 where you sk8.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Hope this helped.
