Default Snug 351's

Hey Doc, my 351's are snug on me. Aside from putting in some thin insoles and keeping the laces loose I need more room. I was thinking about removing the foam from the tongues for that needed room.

How would you remove the foam if you were in my shoes or boots for that matter?

Default Removing the foam

or otherwise defacing a 351 is a hanging offense.... Besides, I am not sure it is really feasible.. I have never seen foam loose on a 351.

Now I have a question....Did I just mount an UI on boots that don't fit??

They fit they fit...I was just thinking maybe a little more room with these would be nice but I am happy with them.

Thanks

Default Beg the Doctor's indulgence

No need to beg amigo... This is excellent stuff... Thanks for taking the time to do it!!

I've been going to post this long before now, but I needed visual aids, and didn't have a chance to do that until tonight.

Dan, I have big feet and some NOS 351s, and can tell you both from experience from my own boots and from other Oberhamers I've dealt with, they aren't as narrow as people think. They lace really wide, and that makes them feel narrow. The footbed is correct for my foot. You should check that on yours. Compare the location of the inside ball of your foot to the widest part of the sole.

Remember that these were pure performance boots and were intended to hold a skater's foot firmly to the plate for relatively short periods of time.

Here's some photos for contrast.

Labeda 377s

Some old 265s

695s

Chesters

My 351s

I'm a size 13C straight down the middle. The Brannock device was made for my foot. I wear Riedell straight off the rack and always have.

Notice how much wider the Oberhamers laces are. The right foot laces wider than that. (Some slight variation in the boots - guess the patterns didn't scale that well for us bigfeets.) Those are 72" laces and they don't make it through the last set of eyelets.

Provided your foot sits correctly in the boot, you may have to really open them up to get them to lace correctly. I ordinarily run 81" laces in my boots, and these 351s need
them. Yours might also.

Doc sez: That is one of the best vis aids I have seen.... Far more educational than many...Many Thanks dvw!!! I am sticking this one to the top!!

Default Great stuff!!!!

I feel as if I'm looking at a photo of my foot in those 351's because mine look identical to that when they're on. The footbed is correct for my foot as well, so like I said they're snug but they're supposed to be to an extent.

That 1/4" thick tongue foam will make them feel tight too. Get some 81" laces and open 'em waaay up. Once you get them dialed in, I'm sure you'll have a better opinion.

You could always find a 353
that boot is rare and hard to find but the 353 boot was a run for about 6month
and was taylored for a womans foot.
351 is a mens spped boot.
