Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default How many mounts will a bont qrc take?

Hi Doc, How many times can you mount a bont qrc? mine have like 2 mounts on them, the same back holes and different holes in the front are drilled out.. Do you think i could get 1 more mount out of them? i know ive heard you cant get to many mounts due to the carbon fiber?

I have a pair of Fiberglass ones with 3 mounts on them... No probblems so far but I don't beat my sk8s..

My concern is the overall structure will be more prone to cracking the more unsupported holes you make.. Composites flex and if it flexes through a hole it could start delaminating at the edges of the hole.. You can epoxy the holes but the structure will still not be as strong as the original..

I know one Aussie that has Swiss cheesed his OG glass ones pretty severely.. No failures yet..

So it all boils down to, is the structure going to be strong enough to stand up to YOUR intended purpose.... I cannot answer that...

I think I know the Aussie he is talking about, 2O year old blue and red Bonts that have had about half a dozen or more mounts, usually with just normal countersunk screws (no special mounting screws) and they are like swiss cheese.

IMO dont skate a plate you are not happy with to save a couple of holes in the base of your boots, even if the boots fail one day at least you will have discovered and enjoyed many plates.

+1 Boots can actually be considered consumables.. Keep playing with different plates and different set ups.. Ya won't know if ya don't try..
