Smile Quad Speed Coach NYC area & Tech Tips

Hi, I skate with the NYC roller derby league and am looking for a speed skating (quad preferable) coach who would be able to give lessons to the league or a group of us. We currently have our own indoor practice area in Astoria Queens. I've been looking online but no luck yet. If you are a coach or know someone and would be interested in giving us a few lessons, please message me.

Also I feel like I've learned a lot just reading on speed technique posts
Plenty to fix skating-wise on my end, keep them up! Any quad specific techniques you can share?

One last question, I tend to get shin splints often while skating and I don't running or doing other sports. Any tips on what exercises I need to do to strengthen specific muscles? Good stretching regimen? Or even insoles that help?

Much thanks

You need to strengthen that muscle. Sitting in a chair, with your heels staying on the ground, lift your toes upward with the muscle on the front of your leg. Hold for a while. Relax. Repeat.

Try using a leg warmer and making sure to fully warm up before going into full practices.

I get shin cramp/splints and find when I am hydrated, have enough potassium (bananas) and use socks and leg warmers, I don't get these at all.

Another thing that helps is orthotic inserts. I use custom made ones, but they are pricey. You can get a decent pair for about $40 from any podiatrist.
