From the central Florida area, my wife and I are looking to purchase some Outdoor Quad Skates, but not sure which direction to go as it relates to brand, style, Wheel size, softness of wheels, etc.
Please share your thoughts for a Newbie Couple looking to get back on 8 wheels but not wanting to get a 2nd mortgage on the house. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you in advance for your time and input. |

Hello and welcome back to skating!
![]() I'd start by recommending inline skates. ![]() Your best bet would be a skate that comes with a size 80-90mm wheel. The wheel will be soft between 70-85 durometer. If you choose to go with a quad skate, that's cool too, but you'll be limiting yourself and your freedom outside. I only have limited experience here. I began quad skating after 30 years too and went with a Riedell boot and soft wheels (for outside). My outdoor wheels are 78A hardness, and they are fantastic for outdoor skating. They are the Radar Energy wheels. Riedell's are amazing skates. Wish you lots of luck. More than anything, HAVE FUN!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am more of an inline guy for the past 25 years but am getting back into quads and not sure why except that inlines are virtually impossible to skate on when the roads/trails are wet. Quads work fine on damp surfaces with the right wheels. I am tired of missing early morning skates because of fog or overnight rain storms. The quad forum seems very lively as compared to most of the inline sections of SkateLog.
