Any ideas why the bike event was cancelled? Skater participation was better than I expected at 131. I used to live out west and loved visiting the Oro Valley in early November for the Cactus Classic IM. I'd be more tempted to make the trip if it wasn't so close to A2A and it was in the cold season for many of us. Maybe back to back weekends with Silver Strand would work? I suppose not many would want to make a trip that long before Thanksgiving. Those out west would not want to make trips back to back weekends. With the return of Squiggy, late February has a race that another southern race would need to be cognizant of (though the Squiggy course will limit the number of potential skaters). Maybe I protest too much as 131 is a solid number of skaters, but mid/late October seems to squeeze the potential destination draw for this race.

The Team SAFE facebook page has an exhilarating write-up.
This write-up is from a Washington state skater. It sounds like my type of fun with some long climbs. Mostly fast pavement with some teeth jattering sections, but nothing that sounds unsafe. The organizers lost money, though they plan on another attempt next year. We may need to make it next year or risk never making it there. |

The race format and execution were excellent and I am really hoping to make it an annual tradition ... hats off to Mangled Momentum for organizing a superb inaugural race.
The road surface was 90% smooth-as-glass and maybe 10% teeth-chattering rough. The long uphills and downhills seemed daunting, at first, but were not so difficult as to make this impossible for beginning skaters. Just don't expect any PR's if you don't regularly train the hills. The weather was perfect - sunny and 70's - and just as importantly, traffic control by Oro Valley PD was outstanding. For those of you on the fence, Oro Valley/Tucson is a very bike/skate-friendly town, with exceptionally wide bike lanes and miles upon miles of fresh asphalt. If Breanna decides to organize a second year, please set aside time/funds for this race -- you will not be disappointed !!!

Hi Skaters!
There have been several updates to the website since this original post. New event date is October 21, 2018 with a free Rollerblade 10k fun skate on October 20, 2018. New poster has been announced as well as the new jersey design. Same amazing host hotel so don't delay in getting a room booked as the room block will likely fill again this year. Updated course to remove the rough sections of the course. So many good things happening! I am still looking for a few more sponsors if anyone knows someone who might be interested. www.saguarosunrise.com Last edited by brebissell; July 6th, 2018 at 05:06 AM.
