The gen 5's, a nice skate, so far ive skated park and some street with the and i like them alot.
i guess ill start giving you the pros and cons of the skate parts Liner: WOW the liner is so comfortable and soft, i could skate it without socks. The liner is very thick and has good flex yet still supports. The only con i can think of with the liner is that it is high and it can be irratating to some people. The liner over all get 9.8/10 Frames: OK the frames that come with the gen 5's are GROUND CONTROL bullet 8 FRAME . These frames are set up anti rocker so you can either ride anti or freestyle. The frames match the boot very well and create a very clean cut look. One major con of the these frames is that there is no replacable H-blcok so your pretty much grinding on your frames when doing frontsides and backsides and whatnot. They are a 2 piece frame design so tehy are sturdy but the plastic wears out easily. Last night i was just out grinding a low stair for fun and when i got home i realized taht there was a chunck taken out about 1 inch long 1 cm wide and 1 mm deep, and i just got these skates. The frames are relatively light though which is a plus because the boot is heavier. the GROUND CONTROL bullet 8 FRAMEs recieve a 7/10, many would ecpect a high rating for frames like this, they do slide very well but since tehre is no replaceable h-block and i chipped the frame the second time skating them i had to give them a low score. Soul plates: 1 word...LUSH, these plates slide so smooth its not even funny, from the firt soul i did i realized the differnce, they slide so smooth and they are so wide tehy made a hudge differne. When you lock in with these you stay locked on, they are very sturdy and slide amazingly. They are very easy to remove, all u need is an allen key to replace them so if yu dont like the white you can change the colour. It is a good thing the souls are replaceable because they wear down easily, i have scraped the sides of them doing cess slides a few times and they wareout easily, but this can be looked over because the razor souls slide so nicely. The razor souls recieve a 9.5/10 they only need to be a littile more durable to get a perfect 10. Wheels: OK the wheels are stock razor wheels, not amazing grip but not bad grip, they are a good all around wheel, i havent skated them enough to realize if they ware down or not but they seem to be holding up great so 7.5/10 Bearings: NO, get new ones, abec 3's jst arnt fast enough, thogh they do ride smooth they are hard to get alot of speed with, although after taking them out and puttung in my abec 7's i realized that they are the coolest bearings ive ever seen. There black,i wanted to keep them just for that but i had to switch them out because they just wernt rolling fast enough. 4.5/10 ..theyre abec 3's they roll smooth and look cool but they dont spin very fast. Anti rockers: The antis that come with the gen 5's slide on just about anything well, they are just like riding freetyle accept you wont hang up and you can drop in nice and smooth. They are not very strong though, like the frames and souls, i have ripped them up a lil bit only after a few sessions but that can be forgiven because of how smooth they ride. 8.3/10 Buckles: they hold well but if you by mistake kick the buckle they will release a few clicks. They also seem flimsy and since razor is selling replacement buckles cheap i cant see them lasting to long. 6/10 Shock absorbers: the Gen 5's come with forward pitched shock absorbers under the heels, they are great for taking drops but when you first use them they pitch your feet forward alot wich is awkward at first but really helps landing fakie, they are hard to adjust to but are very helpfull and if you dont like them you can just take them out vey easily.8/10 Boot all around: The boot is heavy but a good sturdy one, its backslide plates are great which makes royals easy to lock onto, the one turn off is that it is a heavyer boot, but it is easy to adjust to and when i compare them to downtows there only a few grams heavyer. 8/10 Worth the money: YES, i paid 250 canadian from a shop and it was worth teh money for sure, rollerwarehosue is sellg them for 200 american, The boots are being sold for 180$ american and the frames are worth 50$ so they are well worth teh money. 8.9/10 for if they are worth the cash. total for the razor genyses 5's~~~~~8/10 By: lee mcdonald Last edited by lee-mcdonald; January 15th, 2007 at 07:25 PM. |

I'd like to take this time to say, that i've read all of them, and even though i'm fairly new to skating i beleive ill catch on quickly, so I think my next skate will be something pretty high up the scale. i.e. more than like one of the skates you review. except maybe not if they don't make size 14s lol

I'm very new to skating and am absolutely loving my gen 5's. I'd just like to clear one thing up:
I believe the Gen 5's come with the GC Bullet 8 frames and not the HI-LO's don't they?

I'm just wondering, do you know if its possible to take out the anti rockers that come with the GC frame (38mm i think) and shove in an 8mm axle and 47mm anti rockers that take bearings?
I figure because of the 8mm axle they won't be low like they would be on a 6mm one so i'm hoping it would work but am not quite sure One last thing: Is it actually possible to run a HI-LO setup on the bullet 8 frame by using the 6mm axle in the middle and something like the smaller wheels? If so, what bearings are used to fit around the 6mm axles?

ok i dont think you can but a bigger axel in unless you get bigger frame spacers (lil plastic things our axels fit through) and getting big antis defeats the purpose sort of but yea i believe you could run big antis in there if u get the frame spacers bigger.U can put hi lo frames on because ther UFS like very other skate ever made

The reason i asked about the anti's is because the ones that come with it are fairly so-so. Come on, as if you wouldn't put bearings in an anti-rocker to make it spin more freely. The spacers aren't much of a problem, i can order them in. I'm just wondering if theres anything like a 40mm anti that'll take bearings, all that i've managed to find so far are 47mm ones.
Also if you don't mind, have a look at this thread for me, it's getting nowhere in the beginners section, you might have an idea how to help me out: http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/...ead.php?t=1594

ok, oil works good and that squeeky sound happened 2 me and still does if my wheels areny centered, i replaced my bearings to abec 9's cuz teh 3's just wernt cuting it
anyways just take the wheels out and clean em with a dry rag and your frame put soe oil on the bearings and pop em back in. (PS have u found teh cool hidden tool on the gens yet, its in such a convienient place and is great since i have 2 tune my skates wen i get 2 the spot im skating)

Yea i found em! I also stuck in gel soles to make my entire foot feel more comfortable, the heels are great but the balls of my feet on the plastic aint too much fun.
I'm looking at getting something like Crap bearings. Are the Bones Redz any good? Im not into all the abec mumbo jumbo, i think its all nonsense.

I work at a sports store, so we have inner soles to put in sports shoes. Basically i took a size 13 gel one and it basically covers the heel pad and the toes, then i just put the black thin bit over the top and chuck the liner back in. My toes feel a whole lot more cumfy now that they have cushioning too
I tried getting the bearings out of the wheels today, without a skate tool since i don't have one yet. Definately didn't work....

I just had a look today, and they have no skate tools, i was pretty pissy
If i use an allen key to jam the bearing out, won't that wreck the bearings and wheels?
