Roller Derby Outside the United States

I'm traveling through Spain and Italy this winter and I was wondering if Derby had made its way out there and if anyone has contacts?

As far as I know the only country outside of the US and Canada to have roller derby is England, and they are in the fledgling stages. I believe there is also something starting up in Germany. Japan has a roller derby like game. With all the quad skaters in Spain and Italy roller derby will probably pop up there too eventually.

I've Googled "Roller Derby GB", "Roller Derby UK" & "Roller Derby England" and received one 'hit' ~ which turned out to be a 'holding site'!

Have you any links for currently active Roller Derby clubs/ teams anywhere in Great Britain?

I just came across this forum as I googled through finding new leagues. You can find a list of International Amateur Roller Derby Leagues here:

There is indeed an active league in both London, UK and Stuttgart, Germany as well as New Zealand and Mexico! If anyone does find information about other leagues not listed, please let me know.

Hi,

There are two leagues in the UK:

Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames (West Midlands)

London Rollergirls

and another which is in inception stage in London.

I have recently set up the Roller Derby UK site & Forum to help spread the Derby love here. There's a DIY Derby Manual to help other people to start up their own leagues.

The Birmingham league (which I run) is just beginning practices - so if you are around the West / East Midlands and want to learn the sport of Roller Derby get in touch.

just updating you on rollerderby in the UK.

There are now 10 leagues in the UK!!!

There's my league, The Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames
London Rollergirls
London Rockin' Rollers
Glasgow Roller Girls
Bedford Bandits
Aberdeen Aces
Leeds Roller Dolls
Middlesbrough Milk Rollers
Lincolnshire Bombers
Central City

There have been two bouts in England. The London Rollergirls was the first in September 2007. The second was the first EVER interleague bout in the UK, The Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames vs The London Rockin' Rollers in October 2007 which the BBDD won. The third will be another London Rollergirls bout which will take place in two weeks. The London Rockin' Rollers also took on Stuttgart Rollergirls in Germany in October 2007.

There is someone trying to start a league in southern Ireland, Cork, Dublin area. Europe wise there are two leagues in Germany and one in Sweden.

There are also quite a few in Australia.

Australia has it's fair share of Derby too, with teams in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane that I know of.

There's also the beginning of a group in Canberra and I've heard rumours about leagues in Tasmania and Western Australia, also.
