Default Rink Skating Hazards

I am just woundering if it me or does this happen at all the rink.Do the kids even look even before they get on the floor like they dont even care and run right out in frount of you while your skating or just go the wrong way on the floor you make you move out of there way cause they think its fun. or want to sit in one spot on the floor not even movein? i am not talking about the newbes that don't know any better but the reg skaters.

I my self have come to a point where i don't even care any more and i run right into them making them fall or i kick there foot as they try to trip me skating bye because they think its funny. I also know this sounds bad but scerw it. also there parents look at me like im the jerk i just shrug my sholders and say o well you need to teach your kid the right way to skate at a rink and if they don't like it do something about it. they know to watch out for me now sence they don't seem to be doing anything about it and i just get tired of it.

Brikkee, Kids are like this. Kids are creative, fast learners yet still like animals going in this way and that, with high versatility. Kids are a difficult challenge when they are older than 1.5 years and many out of the womb.

Brikkee, Remember someone once might have taken the struggle and time to help you to learn to grow and mature. Muster your strength and help these awful ones, to you and others, to grow and to season like fine wine, or a good bear.

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Dave

Little 3' tall 50 pound Ash took out a teen boy who was skating the wrong way last Tue. It was hillarious . I have found the younger ones are the most likely to skate out in front of you but I can easily dodge most of them. As for kicking skates, Kegan is the only one I do this to, he tries to get me also.

When I DARED to take on a "Customer Appreciation skate" (you get in free) I overheard a kid tell another kid" Hey lets go trip people"! I watched them for a short time tripping other kids before they moved on to unsuspecting adults. That made me MAD. Kids don't realize that adults have to get up an go to work or they don't eat, pay bills, etc..

This kid tripped a very unsteady adult skater and then tryed to blame it on the adult! He was complaining about how the big guy just fell on him. I couldn't stand it anymore. I stepped up and suck my 2cents worth in to the rink Mgr & to the kids Mother. Of course the kid's Mom was defending her son! The rink mgr is friends with me & she banned the kid after he continued to lie about what happened.

The Mother was seething and would not accept what the son had done, of course saying the whole time that he was a victim. The rink mgr then took out the closed circuit video... AH HA! Finally some justice. The rink Mgr gave the man a copy of the video along with the Mother's info in case he wanted to tak legal action. She also banned the kid for life. he told me later that he had been a problem and that this was the last straw.

Yep I see that stuff happen all the time at the rink. They not only zip onto the floor without looking but like to cut people off while skating and think nothing of it. Its a shame but it seems most rinks have no control over the crowd.

I don't want to sound mean or like im out to do this. but 1or 2 times even 3 i let slide and say ok not a big deal it happens there kids. i even go as far as 4 or 5 times but when i see that they are now doing this for the fun of it i start to get mad and im not moving out of the way any more. needless to say most of the kids that do this there parents use the rink as a babysitters and are animals they throw an hole bag of candy on the floor, playing tag,or just do what they want. i have even seen a kid walk up to the floor and dump his soda on it making 15-20 people fall at one time and now there soked in soda and the kids are laughing about it.its simple if your on the floor skate and skate the right way.i also have seen parents walk onto the floor to talk to anouther parent for 20-30 mins in one spot in the middle of the lane of traval as for me i just roll over there toe or clip there feet and say whoops sorry and skate along and do it again and again till they move off the floor to chat and there are also not to happy with me at this point.

Anymore, we have more problems outside of the rink floor than the rink itself. We get many kids from bad neighborhoods come to a rink in a good neighborhood and we have problems. Running up and down the side isle. Throwing food at one another. Back in the day we shook hands with the guys and hugged the girls, now today they just hit each other. I have talked to the mgr about making it that you must have skates on to be in the building. That is how it was back in my day. You better have had a good reason to not have your skates on.

Yes the parents think their bad kids are angels! I see it all the time and have dealt with it.

Here are my favorites that I deal with all the time

Stopping along the wall to get a drink, food, etc and sometimes with the help from their parents.

TAG

Hopping over or sitting on the wall.

Talking on the cell phone and not watching where you are going.

Unseasoned skating parents carrying their 2year old out on the floor and almost falling.

Asking me "WHY?" (keep in mind they are arguing with me)when I tell a beginner skater to get off the floor on an ADVANCED skater set.

Yeah that stuff is annoying. Gotta love the parents carrying their children while they are skating or attempting to skate. I remember a few times when I was floor guard telling parents not to carry their children while on skates (one guy had his 2 year old on his shoulders) and the parents getting all pissed off at me. amazing!

I have been waiting for this to happen where-ever I skate yet in my many years now I can only remember one boy who purposely fell on the floor in front of others. Of course by now I am quite good so it would be harder for this to happen to me.

My only advice is for you to tell the skate guard or the manager a lot earlier so that they can watch these boys themselves.

I don't know or like the banning for life; although, I know of rinks that do exact this punishment and some kids are just hyper. One rink owner (named CharleyP) told misbehaving kids that they had to bring in a bible and show him some passages before he would let them return. Almost all came back and he would talk to them. And no he wasn't in the bible belt or Indiana.
