Default Foot Work

Foot Work:

I've been doing footwork where on an right, forward, inside edge I can rotate three times. At the end I'm skating backward and extending the left leg back as if having landed a jump. This can be done when over-shooting or not checking a landing from I think, roller lutz . (Could I have forgotten the name? Skating backward and toe in with right stop with one revolution to land backward.)

Anyone use this in a combination with a jump or other move ?

Gary

Default Oops!

Oops! Did I say three revolutions ?

I meant to say three half-turns turning to the left 1/2, 1/2 and 1/2 then skating backward .

Cool

So basically, this is a 3 3-turn setup to a flip jump (or to a mapes jump if you jump left-handed as I do)

Default Three Turns

Sk8on8,

No sir, the three turns are an easy continuation after the jump.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I think that can sometimes be used as an entry or set-up into a double loop. I believe that was used in the same way a left three turn can be used before a salchow, or flip. (Or, as you say falling out of a jump will cause that to happen as well). But the other way I'm describing would of course be intentional.

Pacificsk8r,

Doing the 3-turns after the landing is fun but as I understand it my moves would appear more like an unchecked jump than extending the leg out as a final act to the jump. Sure was fun though.

Maybe the 3-turns ("free turns"?) should be accomplished before the jump instead.

gary you are right, free turns after a jump will look like u couldnt control the landing and not being checked as you mention. free turns are normally used in footwork and before jumps not after the jump is landed and checked. of course once the landing is control and you held the landing you can do free turns as part of footwork if it fits the music. but if your having fun do whatever makes you feel good as there isnt any judges during sessions.

Cool

I agree with Rick,

3-turns after the jump landing would look like a loss of control unless you waited a bit to show you have the lading controlled. And also, what he said about having fun doing what you like, it is called freestyle after all. But, if you do compete, don't practice bad habits, even for fun when there are no judges around.

good point on not doing things wrong that can develope in bad habits, as bad habits are hard to break and the judges dont like them at all. so its better to practice things the way they should be done. you should try to get the freestyle tape put out by usarollersports that show most things with proper technique. its an old tape and a new one hasnt been produced in years. with april, and heath doing most of the demonstration.
