Hi all from Montreal!
Well, the event is over and it was a great time. We managed to place 9th overall, which I was ecstatic about! Lawrence (More Cowbell) placed an incredible 3RD overall in the solo division, skating I believe just shy of 90 laps around the 2.98 mile course. We all watched him climb through the ranks and moved to within 2 laps of 2nd place and 7 shy of 1st place. We had some rain, mostly overnight and some pretty heavy. But the sun came out for Sunday morning and the finish was under the bright sun. Jessica finished off the event alongside Lawrence. I'll try and post pictures when I get home on Monday evening.

Out of Curiousity, if anyone has figured it out what was the teams average time per lap, and how long is 1 lap around the track?

I believe the track is 4.71 km with the detour through the woods, 4.36 km without.
The former was calculated using the course record time/speed posted on the results page. The latter was found on the F1 association website. |

Greg, I didn't hear the official finish for them, but I think they came in 2nd. They definitely lived up to their name as they were flying around the track! I managed to draft with 1 of them for about half a lap but he still had legs, I didn't, as another skater passed us and he latched on.
More when we get back to the States. Don |

THey placed 2nd overall in the fitness category, which we were in. There was actually talk about bumping them and the 1st place team up to the elite category, since they were going so fast, bit that never happened.

Some things to remember though, they eliminated the detour through the woods during the hours of 9pm Saturday to 9am Sunday, making those laps a little under a quarter mile shorter. (and smoother) It was great to get the results real-time. We were dicing it out with the 10th place team for a while in the early evening on Saturday, but we ended up finishing a solid 2 laps ahead of them. Funny thing about lap times, my best times were when the conditions were the worst, in the pouring rain between 11:00pm and 12:30am. The whole team was really solid. And we all had a great time. Kathie, you were REALLY missed!! In addition to meeting each other (obviously), we also met Cowbell, mjcole, Intrepid, and sk8crzy. It was great to finally put real faces to names, instead of photos. And photos... my wife took over 400 and I got some video, so I'll try to post them up as soon as possible. Maybe Monday evening.

I'm back home now (actually at work!) and have to say the 24 hour race weekend was soooo fun!
Very nice to meet and race with the rest of the Skateloggers - what a good group of people! Dang good skaters, too. And it was nice to meet More Cowbell, Intrepid, Mj and other SLF's too. And Margo's husband Cale, and Peter Doucet, and whoever else I forgot. The shirts were blindingly bright and quite a hit among the competitors. Everyone knew who we were and it was very easy to see your teammates both on and off the track. A couple of us were approached by other competitors to buy/trade for our shirts. More Cowbell was amazing! He just kept on going and later on in the race quickly (a relative term in a 24 hour race) moved up the ranks. Given a few more hours I think he would have won the thing! And his spirit was amazing! He probably cheered us on more than vice versa! Once in the dim early morning hours we were waiting for him with our cowbells to cheer him on. But he had changed shirts so we did not recognize him. He saw us though and shouted "Go Team Skatelog!!" As noted, the results for the SLF team were good. We were 12th out of ~ 75 teams overall and 9th out of ~21 in the Fitness category. We stayed in our position for probably the last 15 hours of the race, with little chance of moving up or down, which was a strange thing for a competition. Individual lap times for teams were available realtime, but there was usually a line to use the one computer, so you had to take a quick look. Based on what I saw, everyone on our team had their fast laps, with Gopherfan (Brian) and Jessica consistently pulling off some of the faster laps. The real surprise was Mark, who when the course was not wet, was one of the fastest on our team! We set up our rotation somewhat based on predicted speed, and Mark was in the #10 slot. Guess you never know until the race! It was a great time! |
