Default Password for Buy-Sell-eBay Forums

I think I thought of the perfect way to prevent the buying and selling forums - and eBay/Craig's List forums - from eclipsing all of our other skating discussions.

I can password protect those forums with an easy-to-type password, so only interested parties - not the general forum population - would have see those forums and all of their posts and replies.

If we did that, it would solve so many problems that I think it would allow us to keep those forums indefinitely, although buyers and sellers need to note that our "no public disputes" rule would still stand.

I think I will try this as an experiment starting October 1.
I want to wait until then, to give us time to spread the word to all of our forum visitors.

Everybody has until October 1 to voice their opinions about this idea...

If it keeps the buying and selling forums open then it sounds like a good idea to me.

Default would only forum members be able to veiw the for sale section

or would guest have access as well.........Do you have to be logged on.......Password should be really simple like "Skates"......I rather just see a sub type forum where all can visit.....just click on and you are there.......but if it works I say go for it.........Can you add the Buy and Sell Skating Products Here to quick links pull down menu at the top of the page.......

Yep! And not only that, only the forum members who logged on to that sub-forum would see the for-sale posts.

In addition, we will also move the eBay-CraigsList forum to the buying and selling section, so one password can provide access to both the buy-sell and ebay-craigslist subforums.

No, they will be visible enough, just password protected.

And we would add a new rule... no pointing to, or mentioning your buy-sell posts in any other forum.

I'm on board........

Password, etc. fine with me.

Hey - how about credit card numbers too? If somebody gets out of line, just zap their credit card with a $25 'misbehaving' fee. Use those fees for an annual SLF get-together.

While I say this in jest, I'm half serious too. Anything to keep it real around here.

Can we still give a general heads up to someone in the regular threads, to go check the Buy/Sell, if that thread discussion indicates they would want to know about something being offered there (not necessarily offered by me)?

Nope (because it would only encourage sellers to think of creative ways to point to their for-sale items in the regular forums, so more eyeballs would see their ad)

Yep! PM'ing that person would be perfectly fine.

Kathie, are you going to have one password that all members use?
Or have us use our current password?
It's probably not that important at this stage, but I'm curious.

Sounds good. Are you going to put the new rule and old ones on the new logon part? And maybe list the penalties to the member if the rules aren't followed too, or go on a case by case basis?

We'll make sure the adjusted forum rules are posted prominently in the forum.

Here's the list:

1. Any member who violates our forum policies is taking a chance of having their forum account disabled.

Skaters who don't agree with our forum policies need to know what they are risking if they don't follow them.

What does one password far everyone solve? I seem to be having an issue with the concept. If you already have to log in to post, then this resolves what? Currently, if I don't want to see/read the buy-sell threads I simply don't go to them. If I don't want to read a thread that has turned ugly, I go on to another one. Please give a little more back ground as to this password plan.

I realize the forum is yours to do with as you feel is right and best, I just don't see what this will resolve.
