Default How old is too old

Hi;
I have been a runner for many years and am seriously looking into in-line skating now. I was just wondering if a young 49 yr old is a little too old to start in-line skating. So what do you think. Any other 40+ year olds out there that can relate some experiences?

I wonder when someone might be too old to run? That might be the time.

Kind regards,

Gary

I skate with one guy that has a hip replacement (47 years old) and another guy in his seventies that has a knee replacement. Their injuries occured in non skating activities but they thrive as skaters.

I'm a 47 year old former runner (back injury) and skating has been great for me. Your going to love skating and enjoy it for many years.

This is a question now considered more appropriate when you are over 60!

I'm 45. I started a little over a year ago, aggressive skating. I am now schedule to go to Woodward, the mecca of aggressive inline skating in my opinion. I plan on leaving that place a new skater, a freak of nature.

The time looks about right Rennvogel. Some runners (and bikers) have begun inline skating as a close cross training activity that allows them to put in some miles of cardiovascular work without so much stress on their joints. I have several friends I skate with who are runners and made fast progress in skating because they were physically fit already and applied the discipline learned in running to learning and improving their skating technique. I'm sure you will have the same experience. Best wishes and fun, safe skating.

"They" say "You're only as old as you feel."

The last time some Goth wanna be punk told me that, I beat the crap out of him with my cane.

Default graveyard shift

last summer I skated a very demanding route*) way above the arctic circle (the "finline") - I guess the mediate age was about 40, the youngest being in the 20s, the oldest being 66.

and you're only 49? what do you think?

*)400 km in 5 days, pretty hilly, pretty rainy, climbs and decents, not always perfect tarmac...

There is an old saying,"If you have to ask, you have answered you own question."
Think it be it, for better or for worse.

I can't agree more!!! And I firmly believe that the later you start the more likely you are to love skating! It opens a new way, a new exciting life! Skating is like nothing a human being can experience!!!

400 km is just unimaginable!)) Well done!

As far as rainy weather and imperfect tarmac are concerned... Well I have to skate in the rain most of the time and I really enjoy it (it's been pretty rainy for the last couple of months here). A perfect Tarmac... in Moscow... is something you can only dream of!

That's exactly the way I feel about skating! And ... it makes people feel and look younger!

Only skating makes you absent-minded!)) I for one can't think about anything else but skating when I am off-skates!
