Default Leagues/Skaters contacted by old school rollerderby associations?

Just a question, I was wondering if any other leagues/skaters were being contacted by the Bay City Bombers or the Canadian Rollerderby Association about old school rollerderby?

I have no idea..just heard that there was an association, and wanted to see if anyone had been contacted by them.

If you are talking about the "Old School Derby Association" then that is a Roller Derby group that has been contacting lots of new leagues and split off leagues.
There aren't much standards to join the OSDA which makes them a great lure for new leagues and splinter leagues to join, making it look like the easy road to go.
You should contact your local WFTDA rookie wrangler to talk more if your league is curious as to what the differences between WFTDA and OSDA are.

Ya, thats what I heard as well. Alot of strange goings-on. I have seen some trash talk myself. Pretty un-professional coming from a "professional" derby association. Too bad.

Check out the OSDA blog and its criticism of WFTDA leagues, which IMHO is unfounded.

I really think there's enough room in the derby world for two associations. Coed leagues? Great. Different rules and attitude? Also great. People who like things one way can join WFTDA or aspiring WFTDA leagues, people who like them another way can go the OSDA route, and we can all declare peace in the Middle East and roast kosher/halal/vegan marshmallows over the campfire while singing "Kumbaya." But when most of OSDA's effort seems to go into criticizing other leagues' way of doing things, when they seem to make a point of recruiting splinter leagues, and when they have so many leagues that are in the very early stages of development or (from what I've heard about the Tulsa OSDA league) nonexistent, it's kinda hard to take them seriously. Doesn't help their case to note that many/most of the established coed, banked-track, pro, or other leagues that, for whatever reason, don't fit into WFTDA haven't given them the time of day either.

Seem to remember reading they were started by a rink owner who wasn't happy with the idea of a skater-owned-and-operated league, and few people if any have joined.

Hailey Hawkeye, Dominion's former head ref, just moved back to the Tulsa area and is reffing for GCRG now. She's awesome.

If anyone is interested in checking out whats going on in Canada in this regard, it's really interesting.... I'm keeping my mouth shut, but I'm sure your reaction will be the same as mine! Its a long read, but worth it.

They also snuck a picture of one of our league members with our logo in the back..we are NOT affiliated, and it's misrepresented.

Default OSDA

The OSDA is not associated or working with any of the professional leagues. The OSDA does not work with or is associated with the CRDA or the Bay Bombers.

The OSDA is open to all non-pro leagues and sometimes that means new leagues join.

Default WFTDA checking in...

Hi!
I'm Mercy Less, Marketing/PR Chair for WFTDA, and Board of Directors. I just wanted to make clear that the above post from a member skater of a WFTDA league is NOT the organization's position on OSDA. Of late we are enjoying an open communication with OSDA, and we'd like to continue building that bridge between us - we all love the same thing, after all!

In the future, I'd remind our members to remember to be careful of their use of the word "we" in online forums, lest they give the impression they speak for all of us. WFTDA does things one way, and OSDA another. There are other organizations beyond these two, as well. We all play derby, and try to respect each other's differences.

There's room in the community for all of us! If you are interested in becoming a WFTDA league, you can contact a rookie wrangler here : rookieleagues@wftda.com, or look for membership information on our website, www.wftda.com. Thanks!

Derby For All,
Mercy Less

Smile Thanks!

Thanks Mercy Less!

We really appreciate all of the effort that WFTDA has made for Roller Derby and for all the help that WFTDA has given to the OSDA.

Thanks again!
